This National Work Zone Awareness Week, ISEE highlights the critical role of blasters, drillers, and explosives professionals in securing blasting zones. In our industry, safety isn’t a box to check - it’s the core of every decision, every plan, and every shot.

ISEE’s mission to enhance the safety, science, skill, and benefits of explosives engineering, worldwide, reflects our unwavering commitment to safe operations. Blast site security isn’t just about compliance - it’s about protecting lives.

Six Field-Tested Practices for a Secure Blast Site

1. Review the Blast Area Security Plan with the crew and site operator before loading.

2. Determine the Blast Area radius based on site-specific conditions (rock type, topology, design).

3. Adjust the radius if field observations or loading conditions change.

4. Guard all access points and ensure all guards know their role and how to signal an abort.

5. Conduct a final sweep to verify the blast area is clear before firing.

6. Restrict entry post-blast until the Blaster-in-Charge gives the All-Clear.

Safety zones aren’t just procedures - they protect lives.
