INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF EXPLOSIVES ENGINEERS
ELECTED TO 2002 ASSOCIATIONS ADVANCE AMERICA HONOR ROLL

CLEVELAND, OHIO - The International Society of Explosives Engineers (ISEE) has been named to the 2002 Associations Advance America Honor Roll, a national award presented by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), Washington, DC.

ISEE received the award for the development of seismograph field use guidelines and manufacturers performance specifications. These standards were developed to protect homeowners, businesses, and the public, and to provide consistent monitoring guidelines for professionals who use explosives in construction, mining, and quarrying. Accuracy and consistency were needed in both field use and manufacturing of seismographs.

Last year, ISEE’s Blast Vibration & Seismograph Section established “Field Practice Guidelines” and “Performance Specifications for Blasting Seismographs. ” Since then, nearly all manufacturers have embraced the performance specifications. Many organizations and government agencies have adopted the Field Practice Guidelines and now require compliance. As a result, the number of field users who follow the guidelines has increased.

According to Jeff Dean, ISEE’s Executive Director and General Counsel, “The seismograph practice guidelines and performance specifications were designed to protect the public, provide regulators with a useful tool, reduce litigation costs and complaints, and provide better data from monitored events for improved technology, methodology, productivity and safety.”

Now in its 12th year, the prestigious Associations Advance America Awards program recognizes associations that propel America forward – with innovative projects in education, skills training, standards-setting, business and social innovation, knowledge creation, citizenship, and community service. Although association activities have a powerful impact on everyday life, they often go unnoticed by the general public.

“The ISEE’s program truly embodies the spirit of the Associations Advance America campaign. It is an honor and an inspiration to showcase this activity as an example of the many contributions associations are making to advance American society,” remarked ASAE President Michael S. Olson, CAE.

The “Seismograph Field Practice Guidelines” are included in the ISEE Blasters Handbook available through the ISEE web site: www.isee.org. For more information on the guidelines or performance specifications contact Jeff Dean at (440) 349-4400.
