Research Explosives
Abstracts ON LINE!
ISEE's Explosives
Reference Database is now searchable on line.
Whether your interest is in cast blasting, blast
vibrations, demolition, or underground blasting,
the answer to your technical question is just a
click away.
In the mid-90's members requested that the
Society move toward development of searchable
databases. This was the beginning of a move
toward an inclusive electronic database for the
industry. Prior to that, the only way to search
the database was to use the database index that
was painstakingly compiled and kept up-to-date
by Bob Hopler. We appreciate all the time and
effort that Bob volunteered for the project. It
was a labor intensive and costly project. Since
then, we have moved to an electronic version
that includes key word searching, abstracts on
line, and data stored on DVDs - much easier to
search.
Back then we also developed an Abstract Database
on a mini-CD for users who had hard copy of the
proceedings. The Abstract Database search was
usable with key words and overall was well
suited to those who did not want to purchase the
entire Explosives Reference Database on CD ROM.
Today we update the database each year (now so
large that it is stored on DVDs). At the same
time, we update the searchable Abstracts which
have been installed on the ISEE homepage - a
great service for members who do not have hard
copies of the proceedings on hand or work on
computers on the road. Abstracts can be search
and papers can be ordered and obtained almost
immediately by email.
The comprehensive Explosives Reference Database
on DVD includes all of the Proceedings of the
Annual Conference on Explosives and Blasting
Technique for 35 years (63 volumes) and includes
Proceedings of Blast Analysis International
conferences and explosives related US Bureau of
Mines resources. After identifying a paper the
researcher can then go back to the hard copies
of the proceedings and look up the paper as the
year, volume, title and author information is
provided

For those who are still working with the hard
copy of the Proceedings, the Abstract Database
on line is also an excellent way to search
articles. Papers can be obtained quickly and
easily by calling the Society or ordering
online.
If more support or research assistance is
necessary - an email or call to ISEE Information
Services can resolve a question about
information that ISEE has in the Explosives
Reference Database or the Blasters Library staff
can suggest alternative resources, just call
1-440-349-4400.
It's not yet a perfect system, but it is getting
better all the time. It's a service for members,
by members. Let us know what you think.
