Roger Prescott, ISEE Emeritus Board Member [1929-2007]

It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Roger N. Prescott, International Society of Explosives Engineers Emeritus Board Member. Mr. Prescott was a recipient of ISEE's Distinguished Service Award and also received Austin Powder's prestigious Powderman Award.

After a fifty-one year career with Austin Powder, Mr. Prescott will be a profound loss to the industry. During his active career he served as an industry representative on many national and international committees. He worked with United Nations, NFPA, ANSI 10.7, the United States Coast Guard, and many federal and state agencies that have responsibility for the regulation of commercial explosives. His knowledge of all regulation that impacts on the industry was core to many of the ISEE regulatory efforts.

Mr. Prescott’s work with standard setting organizations and assisting in developing standards setting documents related to the use of commercial explosives has been of great value to the industry. That work has continued into Mr. Prescott’s retirement as he worked as a volunteer Chairman of the ISEE Government Affairs Committee. Mr. Prescott has continued that work to the time of his death.

Mr. Prescott served the Society for 20 years as a member of the Board of Directors, Corporate Secretary and the first Emeritus Member. He was a member of the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators (IABTI); Society of American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers, Inc; The American Mining Congress and served on numerous Institute of Makers of Explosives Committees.

Throughout his career he has made an outstanding contribution to the field of explosives engineering. His personal qualities and his dedication have brought him recognition in all aspects of the explosives industry.  His friends in the industry have admired his concern for safety, knowledge and expertise on all things that relate to the use, storage and transportation of explosives. His generosity and guidance to those around him has always been exemplary.

The ISEE Board of Directors, Members and Staff extend our deepest condolences to Alice Prescott and family for their loss.
