Blasters Brave Elements to Attend ISEE Conference in Orlando!

Attendance was strong, in spite of record setting snow fall in parts of the country, as blasters, manufacturers, government officials, and suppliers gathered from all over the world to conduct business, exchange information, and form new business alliances at ISEE’s 36^th Annual Conference, held at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, February 7 – 10, 2010.

The highlight of the popular Blasters Weekend was Saturday's Blasters Training Seminar and Sunday’s Blasters R Us Video Roundup. The well attended Student Industry Connection on Sunday focused on student mentoring. The speakers included Bill Bauer, MREL; Rene (Moose) Morin, Explotech Engineering Ltd.; and Joe Keenan, from Orica. Excitement filled the exhibit hall during Sunday's Welcome Reception. New exhibitors at the 2010 conference included: Blast Management International, Company Wrench, Coogar Sales & Services, Dexpan USA, Flanders Electric, Haag Engineering, Hella Mining, Infinity Tool, Martinez Specialties, Mining Technologies International, Nitroerg S.A., Pulsar Measuring Systems, and Scale-Tron Inc.

Dr. Braden Lusk, University of Kentucky, addressed the Seismograph Section Meeting and Dennis Duty, Baroid Industrial Drilling Products spoke at the Drillers Section Meeting. Over seventy papers on topics ranging from blasting, safety and vibration, drilling, and research projects were presented at technical sessions and the Blasters Forum Poster Session.

The International events brought guests together from all over the world. Fifty-five countries were represented. Dr. Piet Halliday, AEL Mining Services, was the International Luncheon speaker and discussed the explosives industry in South Africa.

Fragblast sessions were held on Tuesday. The Transportation/Security Workshop on Wednesday featured presentations on the various aspects of explosives transporting and traceability.

Industry awards were presented at the Annual Awards and Recognition Banquet including the Blaster’s Leadership Award, presented to Mr. John Crawford, and the President’s Award, presented to Dr. Piet Halliday and Kevin Hachmeister. President Jerry Wallace passed the gavel to the new incoming president, Ron Elliott, Pacific Blasting & Demolition Ltd.
